Good Tuesday morning,

R4 is at the door !! It's hard to believe that a year has passed since our last Reunion, but in 10 more days after today, we'll be celebrating our 4th Annual Reunion of The Camp Hanes Alumni Association !
Please RSVP to me at this email address if you have not as yet done so. We are looking forward to the biggest  and "bestest" Reunion;I know we said that last year; so just wait 'til next year!

We are very excited about the recognition celebration for Ray Mathis and Val Lankford, two former Camp Directors and mentors to  numerous clergymen, doctors, phd's,professors, educators, college and university presidents, and a number of YMCA professionals.
There are so many of us who owe our very existence to these two YMCA icons, and to honor them in some small way truly is  a privilege

We very much want you to be a part of this celebration. If you cannot come for the weekend, make efforts to be with us for Saturday, June 5th; lunch will be at 1:00PM, followed by the presentations;then onto outdoor activities.
Keep in mind, if you are here just for the day, there is no charge. We will be offering CHAA t-shirts at a nominal fee; adult sizes only;our Camp Store will be open for your convenience to purchase items for "smaller" attendees !

As a final reminder, we are wrapping up our 2010 Partner With Youth Campaign, and I need your help in assuring our success this year. At this writing, we are at the $110,000 mark, on our way to our goal of $130,000. Many of you have already pledged, many of you have already agreed to contribute. To you, I  thank you for your generosity;many unnamed youngsters thank you, and YMCA thanks you.
For those of you who are still waiting, will you please respond to my request by return email as to your intentions. We cannot succeed without your involvement in such a worthy cause as sending a youngster to Camp.

Thanks again for allowing me to be here, to be committed to this cause of bringing us together in fellowship, fun, terrific memories, and lifelong  relationships; at YMCA Camp Hanes !

The 4th Annual Camp Hanes Alumni Reunion Weekend is shaping up to be the best one yet!  Overnight is only $25 a person or $40 a family.  Bring your friends, family, swim suit, towels, linens and come spend the day or the weekend.  Mark your calendars now, arrange your transportation, and tell all your other alumni friends to come. Trust us, you'll be glad you did!

Last year we had alumni from six decades, five states, and two countries (thanks Vanessa for coming all the way from Mexico!).  Friday night the current staff entertained at campfire with new songs and skits, and Saturday night we went old school during the alumni campfire with the classics. Saturday brought a hike to the top of Sauratown for some, with land and water activities for all throughout the day.

It has been a couple of weeks since we last talked, so  here's the latest update;
still having trickles of RSVPs coming in for our R4 weekend(June4th,5th,and6th).
I was really excited to hear from Mary Lankford that she, her adult kids, and grandchildren are coming !! I am awaiting some pictures of Val to arrive so we can get the plaques prepared for Saturday's(6/5) presentation !! Also, I'm in the process of hunting a likeness of Ray so we can complete the process !

Please make all efforts to show support to these two ladies, their families, and all who have such a passion for this most beautiful of places our Lord has provided for us ! All you need do is come join us, call some of your contemporaries, have them come for the fun and festivities !!

By the way, if any of you would like to relate a Ray Mathis or Val Lankford "story" to those of us during our R4 weekend, just let me know !!

BILL

Please be aware that I need to hear from you by Tuesday, June 1 of your plans to come to our Reunion of the Greatest Alumni  in this country ; Camp Hanes Alumni and friends!

Many of you have already emailed and called me; good to hear from so many of you; but there is plenty of room, so please let me know ASAP, so we can make plans for a terrific, funfilled weekend !

Please keep in mind our plans to honor Ray Mathis and Val Lankford during our Saturday lunch; planning for Violet Mathis and Mary Lankford to be with us;two wonderful ladies who helped raise a lot of us guys, "back in the day"!

To ALL my Alumni friends,
Good Monday morn to you. Spring is bustin' out here at Camp.
I need your help. This Reunion weekend we are paying overdue tributes to two former Camp Directors: Ray Mathis(1951-1958), and Val Lankford(1959-1966). If you were a camper,JC, or Sr. Counselor during these two eras, will you PLEASE make extra efforts to be present for Saturday lunch(the entire weekend if you can). The Camp Hanes Alumni Association will be honoring  both of these "Camp Icons" with the placement of plaques of their likeness on the Dining Hall wall. We want you to be with us to help in the celebration of Ray's and Val's lives, and to recognize their widows, Violet Mathis and Mary Lankford.

I ask you to reach out to your pals who may not be planning on attending our weekend; but, maybe with our agenda, they will make efforts to come. Please do your part to honor Ray and Val, enjoy goo food, terrific fellowship, renew friendships, and make two ladies VERY HAPPY !
